Who We Are
Big Mama's Kitchen & Catering is a locally owned and operated full service restaurant and catering service. We are conveniently located at 3223 North 45TH Street on the beautiful Turning Point Campus (formally the Nebraska School for the Deaf). The restaurant features dine-in and carry-out meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our banquet facility is available with seating for up to 200.
Our catering service began over 30 years ago as a part time home based business in the kitchen of owner Patricia “Big Mama” Barron. The business has grown to include a restaurant, catering services and banquet facility. Big Mama's Kitchen & Catering specializes in Soulfood and Traditional American cuisine. Our menu includes a diverse variety of delicious appetizers, cakes, desserts, and dinners.
Big Mama's Kitchen & Catering has been featured nationally on the Food Network's "Diners, Drive in, and Dives" in November 2008, was selected as the 56th best place to chow down in American by the Travel Channel in January 2010, and featured on the Sundance Channels Ludo Bites America in July 2011.
Our heart’s desire at Big Mama's Kitchen & Catering is to provide our customers with fresh great tasting food, exceptional customer service, and the feeling they are enjoying a delicious home cooked meal in the kitchen of their favorite "Big Mama".

Big Mama, Ellie, my wife and I wanted to thank you for a great experience at the restaurant Wednesday morning (we were the family with the video camera). We were absolutely delighted with the food (only three pieces of chicken made it home on the seven hour trip and those disappeared after we walked in the door) and, more importantly, with the genuine nature of the staff and yourself. We can't thank you enough for cooking the chicken specially for us. Please never close the restaurant as we and others we tell will be visiting again as soon as any of us travel west. The video we shot with you holding our daughter will be arriving soon and going to Diners, Drive-ins & Dives as well. Thanks for making our vacation so special!

I just got back home on Saturday after my VERY long car trip from Florida to Calgary, Alberta and I have been trying to catch up on my rest.
I have been regaling my family and friends about my trip, and ESPECIALLY my pilgrimage to see you at your restaurant last Wednesday. I was SO happy that you were able to come in after visiting your husband in the hospital. It sounded very encouraging about his dialysis and my thoughts and prayers are with you all for his speedy recovery.
Might I just thank you a thousand times for the fabulous hospitality you displayed to me and the conversation we had, not to mention the extraordinary food your ladies served. Despite my protests that I was too full from my biscuits and gravy down in Mound City earlier that morning, I FINISHED your delicacies without hesitation!!!!!!
My seeing you and your facilities there was THE high point of my trip and a memory I will cherish forever. I thank Guy Fieri for fuelling my journey to you, and, yourself, your daughter (I'm sorry I forgot her name), Regina and all others who help you provide such a loving service for your community.

Big Mama and Staff,
Just a quick note to let you know that our DDD (Diners, Drive ins, & Dives) party was last night and was a lot of fun. Mary enjoyed talking with Mama about the restaurant and the menu.... The highlight of the meal was your oven fried chicken! The tips that you gave Mary were very helpful, especially about the smaller amount of oil and the importance of getting the oil hot. We actually set the oven at 400 and the chicken came out nice and brown, but still moist. Another couple hosted a party last night as well, and the husband travels to Omaha frequently and said he will make it a point to stop by for breakfast or lunch in the near future.
We are sending pictures via snail-mail of our party, which you should receive later this week. Thanks again for the help and we look forward to dining with you in Omaha....
